The challenge
Most dog food calculators return one generic number. DogDietLab had to give a concrete, personal answer in two minutes, bring owners back with ongoing tracking, and work in many countries with local language and units.
What we built
- A free two-minute analysis: a status score from 1 to 100, an exact daily portion and a personalised food recommendation.
- User accounts with several dogs per owner, daily logs for energy, digestion and weight, weekly check-ins and weight trend charts.
- An AI advisor and diet reports based on Gemini, with a review step by nutrition specialists.
- A Pro subscription with the full diet plan and ongoing tracking.
- 24 regional versions, such as en-us, de-de, fr-ca and pt-br, each with product guides and a knowledge base.
How Base44 made it fast
- First working version in about two weeks with one developer. With a classic stack we estimate two to three months.
- At launch: about 80 React components, 12 backend functions and 9 data entities.
- Hosting, database and user accounts are built in, so there is no separate AWS, Vercel or Supabase bill.
- New features typically go from idea to live in two to four hours.
What we learned
- Model the data first. Splitting one large Dog entity into Dog, DailyLog, DietRecommendation, Owner and DietitianReview made the app maintainable.
- Ask the AI for small, specific steps, not for the whole application at once.
- Test every piece of logic by hand. AI can write code that looks right and still counts the wrong field.
What this means for your business
If you need an MVP, a client portal, an internal tool or an AI feature, Base44 lets us ship a working first version in weeks instead of months. We also tell you upfront when it is not the right choice, for example for a large content site or a classic webshop.
